Meet Kayla | Youth Spotlight
Meet Kayla, a remarkable individual whose life transformed with the support of Youth Emergency Services (YES).
Four years ago, Kayla faced the challenges of raising two young children, having dropped out of high school in Alabama with no family support. After relocating to Omaha and joining YES's Maternity Group Home, Kayla re-enrolled in school, secured part-time employment, and set up daycare and VNA services for her children.
With her ultimate dream to join the U.S. Air Force, Kayla overcame obstacles with determination. With help from YES, Kayla graduated high school, maintained employment, and fulfilled her dream of joining the Air Force. She inspired fellow graduates as she spoke at her high school graduation and completed basic training in February 2019. Now stationed at Offutt AFB in Bellevue, Kayla is creating a wonderful family life for her kids.
Kayla's journey is just one chapter in the impactful stories of homeless or near-homeless youth that YES has supported over its 50-year history. As we unveil these compelling narratives, we invite you to join us on a journey through time and transformation. Each week, a new story unfolds, showcasing the resilience and triumph of individuals empowered by YES.
